The hemisphere of rightness or how to make friends
When working with people, you often come across a contingent that is unusual for the average person. This is a group of people, often very active, whose members, according to some theories of temperament, can be described as people with high activity and neuroticism. They often appear in various public places and are especially fond of online spaces; they talk about what is happening around them, presenting these stories as the ultimate truth. At the same time, they expect a stronger reaction from listeners (among whom the majority are involuntary), the more emotional their story is and, according to their expert assessment, more meaningful.
First, a few words about what activity and neuroticism are. Proactivity is the tendency to seek out and take actions that allow him to receive the optimal level of stimulation. That is, a person who is highly active will look for noisy companies, new interesting establishments, sports in order to gain satisfaction. Without this kind of action, he is simply bored. Neuroticism can be thought of as the tendency to experience negative emotions. Moreover, the higher the neuroticism, the lower, most often, the threshold for experiencing such emotions. For example, a person with a high level of neuroticism may be very upset because his favorite cafe does not have a croissant with chocolate, while his friend with a low level of neuroticism is not very upset that he was fired from his highly paid dream job.
There are ideas that very often unite people with precisely this combination of temperamental traits. Such ideas are formed by egregors who at first do not know how to think independently. There is some person who said somewhere on his social networks: “I see that the world is turning upside down, in a year there will be a leap into another reality, for now, get ready and read this book.” Most people probably won’t even get to this post. Others will stumble upon it and ignore it (some will even grin). And still others will open the book, start reading and think “but really, changes (apparently school changes) are coming!” Why would they think that? Books of this kind very often contain provocative statements, and quite simple ones at that. The main idea is that everyone is deceiving us and wants to take away some value from us, but you and I are descendants of the great and will not give in. The message is not always clear and true, but overflowing with emotions. The attentive reader will remember that there are guys who feel emotions a little stronger than others. One might say, more impressionable. They pick up the “wave” of indignation, fear and hope of the author and begin to carry it to the masses, whomever they can reach. First they get their loved ones (if they haven’t already managed to hide from them), then their neighbors, then their colleagues, and at the very end, when there are no free ears and eyes left, they run to random people, preferably there are a lot of them.
Among the latter there are inquisitive minds who want to understand what we are talking about. What if the world really changes and we need to catch this train? They seem to catch the “translators” of these ideas in the act and begin to ask questions: who are you, what are you, why do you think so, why did you decide so, etc. At such moments, poor “broadcasters” either continue to talk and warn at a frantic pace without clear formulations, or suddenly stop and ask themselves all the same questions. Inquisitive guys at some point understand that there was just some spark in these people, some interest, but now there is nothing. It was as if a piece of cotton candy had dissolved in water.
Such processes have been known to magicians for quite some time and they often warn their students about them. The situation looks like this: a person has two hemispheres of the brain, one of which is associated with the current personality and logical thinking, argumentation (left), and the other is associated with past personalities, allies, and is responsible for spatial attention, perception of voice intonations, etc. People whose left hemisphere works more often (i.e., is more developed) tend to take and explain their actions logically, from the perspective of the experience of this person. For example: “I won’t cross the road when it’s red because the traffic is very busy and it’s dangerous.” People whose right hemisphere works more often do not need logical argumentation as such. There is a qualitatively different level of thinking there, and this is due to the fact that the right hemisphere is an egregor of the most diverse allies. Some are a 17th-century pirate, some are an early Christian priest, and some are a housewife from the Mayan civilization. And before the pedestrian crossing, it is generally unknown who will wake up and make a decision. The new leader's argument will remain even more mysterious. Who knows, maybe the red light symbolizes the banner of the Roman Empire or the readiness for sacrifice.
Thus, a left-hemisphere person can control various external impulses, give clear answers to clear questions and follow some specific logic. A right-hemisphere person acts as if intuitively, and he doesn’t necessarily want this, it just happens that way. In addition, such people are highly sensitive to surrounding events. They can feel a subtle change where they are, but the trouble is that due to the lack of habit of giving clear explanations for their actions and sensations, they simply pick up everything that comes to hand and begin to broadcast this change, impulse.
We have found out that there are neurotic people (rather even emotionally reactive, i.e. susceptible to experiencing emotions) who experience strong emotions. There are also active people who need attention, new things, activities, etc. There are those who combine these two qualities, and very often these are people whose right hemisphere is more developed.
This combination actually interferes not only with others, but also with the people themselves. A person, on the one hand, wants there to be some kind of movement around him all the time, so that he attracts the attention of the group and everyone admires him, while he is not ready to receive negative feedback, to face the harsh reality where he is not always considered ideal. Gradually, he enters a vicious circle in which at first he seeks attention, when it turns out not to be what he wanted, he tries to close himself off from it, after which he experiences severe stress due to the lack of stimulation from the outside. Thus, it is very, very difficult to get out of such a situation on your own. Lucky are those people who have close people, family: most often they are accepted with all the cockroaches in their heads, they try to somehow explain that society is structured differently, there are its own rules. And this really works, since with all these actions and conversations a person is given the opportunity to develop the left hemisphere. The personality begins to manifest itself more and more there, which is why every next impulse to convey to the world the happy news about “coming changes” is controlled more and more successfully. Ultimately, an independent unit is formed, the left hemisphere becomes so strong that it begins to make some of its own decisions, without needing support from others.
Unfortunately, such people do not always have many well-wishers. In this case, they “wander” from one group to another, following the initiative of either their allies, or simply external impulses. If they are lucky, they may wash up on some shore that can explain something to them, give them some kind of stability. But this requires a lot of effort and time.
If suddenly, while reading this, you realized that this is about you, here is what I would recommend you do:
1) Try to break the vicious circle at the weakest point. Most often, this place is associated with the realization of one’s own desires. When you want to run to some company, chat, comments, think about why you need it. After that, postpone the decision for a couple of days. This will help you avoid jumping headlong into a dubious adventure and will show that you can at least somehow control the impulses you receive.
2) If you still happen to end up in such a place, then try to follow some role in it. Among warriors, this is called “keeping face”: being in some space, you take upon yourself the responsibility to follow clear rules of etiquette, to get used to some role. It is desirable that this very role be decent and allow you to gain new information and knowledge. Try listening and reading more than talking and writing in such situations.
3) After going out in public, give yourself a rest. Spend the day cleaning your home, washing dishes, reading fiction. Sit on a chair and look out the window, trying not to think about anything. At first, all this may be very difficult, but over time you will be able to savor it as a practiced exercise.
4) Finally, keep your distance from magic. In magic it is very important to have a strong left hemisphere, it must prevail over the right. You will have time to try and work on everything, but only when your personality becomes dense and stable enough.
5) Probably the most important thing: try to rationalize your fears. If you are afraid to go into the elevator, explain to yourself that it is unlikely to fall, since utility services regularly look after it and the brownie has nothing to do with it. If you are afraid of damage from the gypsy woman who greeted you in the store, think about the fact that nothing bad can stick to you, since you yourself are a kind, decent person and regularly pay for gas and electricity.
Briefly: there are different people who are looking for completely different things in communication; some of them may behave unusually, but this is not scary; if you see that something is wrong with a person, offer help delicately; if you cannot help, do not prevent others from doing so; Read, no matter who you are, smart books - they will always come in handy.
